Students in grades 2-3 may participate by invitation only. Students in grades 4-8 who register are welcome to attend. Students in grades 9-12 who are in need of recovery are highly encouraged to register for Summer Scholars.

    Registration closes April 10, 2023.

    register for summer scholars 2023

While registration closes April 10, 2023, students in Grades 2,3, or 12 (Seniors) may be registered by the district after this deadline to support recovery for promotion and/or credits needed for graduation.

Students in grades 2-12 during the 2022-23 academic year can register for full or half-day programs. Registration indicates interest in participating in Summer Scholars and does not guarantee enrollment. Families will be notified of enrollment status after registration closes April 10. All students enrolled will receive breakfast and lunch. Transportation is available for students who live one-mile or more from their Summer Scholars school. To receive afternoon yellow bus transportation, students must register for the enrichment program. Students in grades 9-12 that are eligible for transportation will receive a Metro pass.

Students in grades 2-8 can register for a half-day or full-day.

    • Full-days - morning academics and afternoon enrichment programming.
      • The second half of the day will engage students in enrichment activities unique to each site, such as fine arts, STEM, athletics or civic engagement.
    • Half-days - morning academic programs only. Students must be able to provide their own transportation.

Students in grades 9-12 only need to attend as many academic recovery blocks as needed.

Why aren't all schools host schools?

ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) funding has significantly decreased this year and is set to fully discontinue next year. As we prepare for the removal of ESSER, CPS is providing adequate summer programs for families, but must do so by reducing the number of host sites. Additionally, due to scheduled building maintenance, some buildings will be closed in the summer. As such, CPS has reimagined Summer Scholars to enable financial and operational sustainability, and focus on credit recovery for students, while encouraging community-building across schools.
