Senior Awarded National Recognition from the College Board
My name is Paris Chambers. I transferred to Withrow University High School in the second semester of my sophomore year. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I struggled with my school work like many other students at that time. My motivation wasn't there, I procrastinated heavily, and was an overall idle student. That year was detrimental to my GPA.
The following years, I decided to put more effort into school by being a better student. I worked hard and earned all A’s and B’s for my sophomore and junior year. Fast forward to today - my SENIOR year in high school, and I’m the only student from Withrow who is being recognized for the National African-American Recognition Award by the College Board.
I truly appreciate this accomplishment. There are a plethora of intelligent and talented students here at Withrow and throughout the country and the world, yet, somehow, I was fortunate enough to stand out to the College Board.
The award notice I received stated I qualified for it because of my PSAT/NMSQT scores. Well, I earned a total score on the PSAT/NMSQT of 1160. This award will help me get into the colleges of my choice and will open up the floodgates of scholarship funds.
Even though I did the hard work, I didn't do it alone. I owe a debt of gratitude to my family, my friends, teachers and school counselors for helping me along the way. After graduating, I plan to go to college, however, I’m still figuring out what I want to major in. I love art, but STEM careers are more financially stable. Whichever path I decide to take, I will persevere and work diligently to achieve all of my goals.
