Giftedness Workshops for Parents/Guardians: A 3-Part Series
Giftedness: Nurturing Strengths and Talents in Gifted Students
Date: Thursday, November 30, 2023 Time: 6:00 - 7:00 pm
This parent workshop is the first in a three-part series. What does it mean to be gifted? How can we tell if a child is gifted? What can we do to nurture a child’s natural talents, and how do we help a child reach his or her potential? This workshop will explore these questions and related issues, including educational practices, learning styles, and how to harness personal strengths.
Giftedness: Understanding the Unique Needs of the Gifted Learner
Date: Thursday, January 11, 2024 Time: 6:00 - 7:00 pm
This parent workshop is the second in a three-part series. Gifted students have significant intellectual strengths and the capacity for high achievement. Despite (and sometimes because of) their exceptionalities, these children sometimes struggle in other aspects of their lives, such as their social and emotional functioning. Gifted students may have a harder time finding a peer group with whom they can connect, and they may be at increased risk for issues such as anxiety and depression. This workshop will explore the unique challenges faced by gifted students and provide strategies for supports that parents and educators can use.
Giftedness: Twice-Exceptional Students
Date: Thursday, March 7, 2024 Time: 6:00 - 7:00 pm
This parent workshop is the third in a three-part series. “Twice-Exceptional Students” are those who are profoundly intellectually gifted but who also experience learning challenges, such as ADHD, Learning Disability, or Asperger’s Disorder/ASD. These students require enrichment to foster their intellectual growth as well as supports for their educational needs. This workshop will discuss the profiles of “Twice-Exceptional Students” as well as methods for addressing both aspects of exceptionality.
**All parents/guardians of gifted and exceptional students are welcome. RSVP Required. Google Meet link will be provided to registered guests.
