CPS 2022 Fall Athletics Updates

Congratulations to CPS scholar athletes on a successful Fall season! We have much to celebrate, from football teams advancing in the playoffs, cross country runners competing at State and multiple division titles to personal victories and athletes who excel off the field. Go CPS!

OHSAA STATE TOURNAMENT INFORMATION

OHSAA FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS

Pack the stands! Join us Saturday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. at Princeton High School (100 Viking Way) as Robert A. Taft Information Technology High School takes on Archbishop McNicholas in the regional semifinals. Tickets can be purchased online at www.ohsaa.org/tickets.

Congratulations to the Withrow University High School Tigers, who battled their way to the second round of the state playoffs, on a great football season.

OHSAA CROSS COUNTRY STATE MEETS

Congratulations to Walnut Hills High School senior Gianni Allwein and Aiken High School senior Joyeuse Muhorakeye for finishing in 7th and 63rd place, respectively, at the OHSAA Cross Country State Meet!

  • Woodward Career Technical High School: Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference (CMAC) Red Division Girls Volleyball and End-of-Season Tournament Champions.

  • Sayler Park School: Back-to-back CMAC Junior High Volleyball Champions.

  • Withrow University High School: CMAC Red Division Football Champions and Junior High Football Champions.

  • James N. Gamble Montessori High School: CMAC Blue Division Football Champions.

  • Aiken High School: Boys and Girls CMAC Cross Country Meet Champions and CMAC Blue Division Girls Volleyball Champions.

  • Western Hills University High School: CMAC Girls Soccer Tournament Champions.

  • Walnut Hills High School: Boys and Girls Junior High Soccer City Champions.

CPS SCHOLAR-ATHLETES OF THE MONTH 

CPS Scholar-Athletes of the Month excel on the field, in the classroom and in their community. Join us in congratulating the following students:

  • September: Walnut Hills High School senior Sara Elliot, field hockey, and Withrow University High School junior Terhyon Nichols, football.

  • October: Aiken High School senior Milton Hernandez Gramajo, soccer, and Robert A. Taft Information Technology High School senior Kyshai Calloway, cheerleading.

  • November: Hughes STEM High School senior Jaden Harris, cross country, and James N. Gamble Montessori junior A'riah Johnson, volleyball.

HIGHLIGHTS ACROSS THE DISTRICT

AIKEN

  • Boys and girls soccer completed their first seasons as official sports. 

  • Varsity volleyball finished second in the CMAC Red Division. 

  • Boys and girls cross country repeated as CMAC champions, and senior Joyeuse Muhorakeye placed 63rd at the OHSAA Girls State Meet.

CLARK

  • Varsity football qualified for its first-ever playoff game, and senior Jahkiren Oliver became the program’s first 1,000-yard rusher since 2015. 

  • Varsity volleyball senior Maddison Ross reached 200 career aces. 

  • Girls soccer finished second in the Miami Valley Conference and had four scholar-athletes named First Team All-Conference. 

  • Boys soccer had two scholar-athletes named First Team All-Conference. 

GAMBLE

  • Junior high volleyball won its conference championship. 

  • Varsity volleyball won the CMAC Blue Division regular season championship.

  • Varsity football won its first-ever CMAC Blue Division title, and junior Brent Thompson set the program’s single-season rushing record with over 1,500 yards.

HUGHES

  • Cross country ended its season with personal bests from senior Jaden Harris and freshman Abriyel Apoku. Sophomore Dulce Juarez Iniguez and Apoku placed fourth and fifth overall, respectively, in the CMAC meet.

  • Varsity football finished the season with a 6-3 record and reached the playoffs under first-year head coach Lorenzo Engleman.

  • Varsity volleyball placed fourth in the CMAC Red Division. 

  • Junior high volleyball ended its season 10-1. 

OYLER

  • Varsity volleyball finished fourth in the CMAC Blue Division. 

  • Junior high volleyball earned a 4 seed and made it to the CPS tournament semifinals. 

  • Cross country runners competed in more meets than ever this season.  

  • ESports started with many scrimmages against schools from around Ohio, and will soon have its first-ever match against another CPS program.

RIVERVIEW EAST

  • Varsity volleyball won the CMAC Blue Division tournament championship and had five scholar-athletes earn All-Conference honors. 

  • Varsity football made its first OHSAA D-7 playoff appearance in program history.

SHRODER

  • Varsity football and volleyball scholar-athletes developed and learned from first-year head coaches.

  • Athletic programs saw an increase in participation and all scholar-athletes were academically eligible at the end of the first quarter.

SPENCER

  • Junior high volleyball notched the first CMAC Tournament victory in Spencer Center history with a 2-0 victory over Hartwell in the opening round of the tournament. 

  • Varsity volleyball, junior high volleyball and cross country scholar-athletes combined for a 3.12 overall GPA!

TAFT

  • Varsity football reached the regional semifinals of the OHSAA playoffs, marking eight consecutive seasons with a postseason berth. Don’t miss their next playoff game on Saturday, Nov 12!

  • Our Junior High Volleyball program made it to the 2nd round of the CMAC tournament - many of our girls played both volleyball and competed on our cheer team!

  • Junior high football reached the CMAC championship game.

WALNUT HILLS

  • Cross country senior Gianni Allwein won the ECC Cross Country Championship and the OHSAA SWDAB District Meet before finishing 7th overall at the OHSAA State Meet.

  • Both cross country groups placed within the top 6 at Districts, and the girls team advanced to OHSAA Regionals. 

  • Girls tennis freshman Irisa Poompanit and senior Angela Britton competed in the Division 2 doubles bracket at the OHSAA State Tournament.

WESTERN HILLS

  • Varsity football ended with a 5-5 record and qualified for the state playoffs for the first time in 20 years. 

  • Varsity girls soccer finished 6-5 and won the first-ever CMAC Championship.

WITHROW

  • Boys soccer senior Oredi Wilondja and cheerleading junior Frenshae White were named Withrow Scholar-Athletes of the Month for October.

  • Junior high volleyball won its first CMAC Tournament game. 

  • Boys soccer ended 8-5-2 in its first season under the direction of new head coach David Johnson

  • Junior high football won its second straight CMAC Championship.

  • Varsity football won the CMAC Red Division regular season title, and head coach Kali Jones was voted CMAC Coach of the Year.

WOODWARD

  • Girls volleyball won the CMAC Red Division regular season title and CMAC Tournament championship.

  • Varsity football clinched a playoff berth under the direction of new head coach Jeremy Pflug. Junior Armoud Seals threw for over 3,000 yards while junior Donte Ferrell led the nation with 1,744 receiving yards. 

  • The cheerleading programs welcomed more than 30 new participants between varsity, reserve, and junior high.

  • Cross country ran some great meets this season and excelled in the classroom, too, maintaining the highest-team average GPA (3.02) at the end of the season.
