School Safety Update: A Letter From Principal Wolf

Good Evening Riverview East Academy Families and Staff,

As you know, today Cincinnati Police Department and my security team put Riverview East Academy on an immediate lockdown as a result of learning about a threat of violence made by two students against another student. The intention of the lockdown is to secure all students and staff to allow police and security to search for any potential threat and that is exactly what they did today. There is no timetable as to how long a search may take, and we all know this is stressful and traumatic for students of all ages, parents and our staff. Please know, no weapon was found at our school, and there is no indication that a weapon was brought into our school.

I would like to thank the Cincinnati Police Department and our security team for their swift response and investigation. CPD located the two students off campus and took them into custody. We do know this is an ongoing investigation and these students are facing criminal charges. In addition, discipline per the CPS Student Code of Conduct has been issued including suspension and expulsion. As a precaution we will have additional security for the remainder of the week.

We understand and acknowledge this is a traumatic event for students and staff. Our full school support team was at school today, and our full crisis team will be on site tomorrow to help any of our students or staff members who need assistance processing today’s events. 

I am thankful for the safety of our entire community today, the response and cooperation of our staff members, and the swift response and support of CPD.

2:10 p.m. Final Update - CPD has released Riverview East Academy from lockout and has given an all clear. CPD indicated that no weapon was found on school property. The school will continue instruction and students can safely remain at the school for the remainder of the day. However, if parents, family or guardians wish to pick up their child, they may do so by driving through the bus turn around at Riverview East Academy. Students are being provided with a bagged lunch and the CPS crisis team will be onsite for the remainder of the day and week. Principal Wolf will provide families with an update later this evening.

1:50 p.m. Update - CPD has released Riverview East Academy from lockout and has given an all clear. CPD indicated that no weapon was found on school property.
