Students Build Professional Connections at Spring Career Symposium

Students are investing in their futures by building connections with local professionals.

More than 70 CPS students attended the Spring Career Symposium, hosted by the College, Career and Community Resource Center.

“Our job at the College, Career and Community Resource Center is to partner with the community,” advisor Dominica Brantley said. “From there, we make sure CPS students have the necessary resources and opportunities they need to succeed.”

The event, held at the Mary A. Ronan Education Center, featured community partners, including the Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Works and Marshalls.

The organizations talked to students about post-graduation careers and shared seasonal work opportunities. Brantley says each symposium also provides an opportunity for students to secure interviews.

While networking with professionals is the primary focus of the event, students also heard from guest speakers from Black Achievers and Leading Men Fellowship.

“It’s really exciting to be here because at school they teach you the fundamentals, and here, they give you opportunities to learn more about what you want to do,” Dater High School junior Omarion Beckley said. “They prepare you for life outside the classroom.”

Beckley hopes to go into construction after graduation so he can help people experiencing homelessness find affordable housing.

The College, Career and Community Resource Center opened this school year and held its first districtwide event in November 2022.
