Gold Medals For All at CPS Olympic Field Day

Buses lined up from across the greater Cincinnati area as students gathered to participate in Evanston Academy’s first-ever Olympic Field Day.

The event, held on Tuesday, May 18th saw nearly 50 Diverse Learners from Evanston Academy, Woodford Academy and Mt. Washington School participate in obstacle courses, limbo contests, scooter races and more.

With multiple classes and students out on field trips, staff at Evanston Academy had the perfect opportunity to host an Olympic-sized celebration for students.

“This was an opportunity for us to shine a light on our autistic students,” said Christian Mayola, Community Resource Coordinator at Evanston Academy. “We truly realize that our students with exceptionalities do not get enough opportunities and exposure for moments like this.”

Britini Tudor, principal at Evanston Academy, gathered a small staff team to coordinate the event earlier in the school year. “This is our first ever event like this, but I can guarantee you it won’t be our last,” said Tudor. “I am so thankful for my amazing team who helped coordinate the field day alongside the special teachers who were so supportive and helpful during the event. I couldn’t have asked for a better team.”

The field day culminated in an award ceremony that gave each student a certificate for their hard work in the activities.
