What are you doing now (i.e. profession, school, kickin’ it, Tik-tok, social influencing)? I recently completed my Master’s Degree at Harvard Graduate School of Education. I am now helping open a brand new school in Atlanta, GA, where I will teach 6th grade. I will teach a project-based learning class centered on community partnerships, interdisciplinary learning, and holistic development.
Was there anyone from your time at school that influenced you? How so? In my senior year of high school, I took an African American Studies class taught by Mrs. Brynn Thomas. This was by far the best class I had ever taken, and the first time I felt really excited about what I was learning. Mrs. Thomas challenged me and helped me see the parallels between what we studied in the classroom and what was still happening in our surrounding community. Studying among my peers and doing research with the Walnut Hills Historical Society opened my eyes to the importance of education and community engagement. From her constant encouragement during my college application process to helping me navigate life post-grad, I have been so grateful for Mrs. Thomas’s support!

What’s your favorite school memory? Graduation season is such an exciting time for students, families and staff. This marks the beginning of a new transition and is a time to reflect on all the hard work that has been put in over the years.
