Fairview-Clifton German Language Students Win Golden Lightbulb

The Golden Lightbulb is a Love Thy ‘Nati Award highlighting people in their community who focus on innovation, reducing litter through community engagement or overall community improvement.

Allison Sears, Resource Coordinator at Fairview-Clifton German Language School, is a community advocate. She attends Student Council meetings and recognizes an opportunity to help students grow.

"We presented the Student Council and specifically the Recycling Subcommittee with the question, 'Who wants to learn about applying for grants and awards to fund projects you work on?' 10 students, ages 11 and 12 volunteered," Sears said.

The students learned about grant writing and how they can help their environment.

"My favorite part about winning this award was that I knew I was doing something good for the environment,” Isabel Reising, fifth grade student, said. “It was also great because it's something to add to my resume, and I took home great things like flowers, but I did it because it was good for the environment. We can help save the world one step at a time."

As award winners, the students won $500 to spend on their initiatives.

"The big interest is composting and decreasing waste in the school cafeteria,” Sears said.

Congratulations Fairview-Clifton students!
