Updates from Principals of Woodward and Taft Regarding Friday's Basketball Game - February 3, 2023

Jan. 31, 2023
Hello Taft and Woodward families and community members,

After altercations involving spectators at the previous boys basketball game between Taft and Woodward, we made the decision to eliminate spectators from Taft while allowing Woodward to continue with our parent/caregiver spectators for our pre-planned Senior Night.

After further consultation with Superintendent Wright, we are amending our spectator rules for the Taft v. Woodward boys basketball game on Friday, February 3, 2023. Players on Taft and Woodward’s boys basketball and cheerleading teams will now be allowed two (2) parent/caregivers per player. No other spectators will be allowed.

Players must provide parent/caregiver names to our Athletic Director by Thursday, February 2, 2023. Pre-approved parents/caregivers can purchase tickets at the door upon ID verification. All pre-sales for the game are halted, and refunds will be made to those that already purchased tickets. CPS is providing extra security at the game to ensure these safety precautions are followed.

The basketball game will be live streamed on CPS’ Athletics YouTube page:
We would like to encourage our families to speak with their children, including our student-athletes about expected behavior, and to model that behavior at all times.

If you or your children have any questions regarding adjustments for the boys basketball game Friday, Feb. 3
