Important Message from Principal Lord

Febraury 9, 2023

Dear Sands Montessori Families and Staff,

Per the Cincinnati Health Department, a number of families in our community, including at our school, are experiencing norovirus-like symptoms, including nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. If you or your child is experiencing any of these symptoms, please stay home for at least 48 hours after symptoms have ended without the use of medications.

Please read the attached “Too Sick for School” letter from the Cincinnati Health Department to determine if you or your child needs to stay home. The school nurse is available to answer any questions you may have to determine if your child is too sick for school.

We request that staff follow the same guidelines that apply in the students’ “Too Sick for School” letter and seek medical advice from their doctor if they have any questions.

Handwashing remains the best way to stay healthy. It is critical that students and staff wash their hands often. It may be helpful to schedule handwashing breaks for students, and staff to encourage frequent handwashing. Proper hand-washing includes covering all parts of the hands, including fingernails, with soap; rubbing lathered hands together vigorously for at least 20 seconds, or the time it takes someone to recite the alphabet; thoroughly rinsing hands with water; and drying hands with a paper towel.

As a reminder - students and staff should always:

  • Wash hands after using the restroom, changing diapers, sneezing or coughing, cleaning up vomit or diarrhea, handling soiled items or helping students in the restroom.

  • Wash hands before eating, preparing or serving food or feeding children

Additionally, our school is undergoing a deep cleaning this weekend to ensure our students and staff stay healthy. If you or your child has experienced any of the above norovirus-like symptoms please consider completing the linked survey from the Cincinnati Health Department:

Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions, you can contact our school nurse at 513-363-5000.
