Mt Airy School Gym Turns Barber Shop for the Day

Last week, the Mt. Airy School gym was transformed into a barber shop staffed by volunteers from The Barber Academy of Forest Park.

Approximately 60 students lined up for a free trim during an event that exemplified Be Present! – staff and community members combining resources and talents to make a difference.

Students get a fresh cut at Mt.Airy!  “Some of our students haven’t had an opportunity to get the barber shop experience or even get a professional haircut,” said Isa Holley, an alternative learning paraprofessional who organized the event.

Believing that when students “look good, they feel good and they do good,” Isa brought the idea to her personal barber, who then enlisted fellow classmates interested in giving back.

Barber-in-training Yosieo Lebron said it was a rewarding way to get real-life experience.

A special thanks to Isa and the staff at Mt. Airy School, Yosieo and The Barber Academy of Forest Park for being present for our students.
