Kilgour School Earns 2023 Lighthouse School Designation

Kilgour School was recognized as a 2023 Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Lighthouse School, the only school in Cincinnati to receive this recognition. This prestigious designation positions Kilgour School as a leading example in educational best practices and opens the door for eligibility to receive the coveted National Blue Ribbon status.

The Lighthouse School status is awarded to educational institutions that demonstrate outstanding performance in several categories from academics and progress to parental involvement.

They're the ones on the ground getting the work done, and I’m extremely proud to see them be recognized on a national level.”

Principal Cook Frazier elaborated on her pride in the staff’s ability to close learning gaps created during COVID. Kilgour sent surveys to students, staff and families to find out what was working and what needed improvement.

“One of the surprising things we learned was that our students wanted more time to learn. These students said, ‘We want more time on learning these executive functions,’ and we gave it to them,” said Principal Cook Frazier.

With the Lighthouse School designation, Kilgour School is now in the running for the esteemed National Blue Ribbon recognition, a prestigious honor conferred by the U.S. Department of Education.

Kilgour received National Blue Ribbon status twice before for the 1991-1992 school year and the 2001-2002 school year. Principal Cook-Frazier says she hungers for that achievement once again.

Congratulations, Kilgour on a job well done!
