CPS Leads in School Nutrition
Cincinnati Public Schools is recognized both in Ohio and nationwide as a pioneer in school nutrition. Our Student Dining Services Department has been honored with the Champion of School Breakfast Award from the Ohio Department of Education for five consecutive years. In addition, our department has earned the prestigious USDA Turnip the Beet Award, securing Gold in 2023, Silver in 2022, and Bronze in 2021.
At CPS, we understand that good nutrition is crucial for effective learning. Nutritious meals contribute to improved behavior, longer attention spans, and a greater eagerness to learn among students. We are dedicated to ensuring that every student is well-nourished and ready to excel in their studies each day.
Overcoming the stereotype of the "traditional school lunch" is a challenge we embrace. We are committed to offering exciting and diverse menu options, launching innovative marketing initiatives, and continuously elevating the quality of our food. Our goal is to provide restaurant-quality meals that adhere to nutritional guidelines and satisfy our students.
"We want to be the premier provider of nutritious, low-cost, delicious meals so that students don't feel they have to eat school lunch, but that they want to eat school lunch."
—Jessica Shelly, Director of Student Dining Services
