Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program

The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) is a federally assisted program providing samples of fresh fruits and vegetables to children at eligible elementary schools during the school day, outside the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program meal service times. CPS was awarded this grant when it was a pilot program in 2002 and has been awarded the grant every year since.

FFVP Eligibility

Elementary schools are eligible to participate in FFVP if schools are operating under the National School Lunch Program. The FFVP prioritizes schools with the highest percentage of free and reduced price meals.

FFVP Goal

FFVP provides PK-6 students in participating schools an opportunity to sample unique fresh fruits and vegetables twice a week.  The frequent exposure and adults' encouragement to try each fruit and vegetable are intended to have a direct impact on the students' health. Parents/Guardians, please be sure to ask your student about their FFVP tastings each week!
