Philanthropy/Service Learning

The Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) Service Learning Collaborative is part of the district's Peer Leadership Collaboratives (PLCs) for middle and high schoolers, empowering student teams to design and implement community-focused projects, often linked to health, wellness, or career development, to create positive change and build leadership skills within their schools and broader communities, working with community partners such as Magnified Giving on real-world impact and sustainability.

Student Focus:

  • Student-Led Initiatives: Student Presidents and Vice Presidents lead teams in researching, developing, and Capstone projects relating to service learning.
  • Community Partnerships: Students collaborate with community organizations to address needs, such as health promotion or access to resources.
  • Strategic Goals: Aligns with CPS's strategic plan to build partnerships and provide students with opportunities to serve and lead.
  • Community Learning Centers (CLCs): A broader framework where schools act as hubs, integrating community services and partnerships, which supports these student initiatives.

Student Focus:

  • Team Formation: Students join PLC teams focused on specific goals.
  • Research & Development: Teams learn about community needs and partner organizations.
  • Project Implementation: Students implement their own campaigns or projects throughout the year.
  • District-Wide Connection: PLCs connect at summits to share skills and build networks.

In essence, it's a program fostering student leadership, service, and real-world problem-solving through collaborative, community-engaged projects within Cincinnati Public Schools.
