CPS Strong represents a dynamic collaboration between the University of Cincinnati (UC) and Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS), rooted in the belief that the vitality of our city hinges on the strength of its public education system. With a mission to engage and empower students within Cincinnati Public Schools, CPS Strong strategically aligns programs and services to foster readiness, accessibility, and achievement, thereby driving a transformative educational impact for all students.

Through the CPS Strong initiative, UC and CPS developed the College Innovation Pathway (CIP) at Shroder High School. This unique College Credit Plus (CCP) program is recognized by the State of Ohio and requires students to make a four-year commitment from grades 9 through 12.

A Solid College Pathway

Students participating in the College Innovation Pathway (CIP) at Shroder High School enjoy a host of advantages, including tuition-free college courses and the opportunity to earn CCP credits. CIP is designed to empower students with dedicated 1:1 and group advising, facilitated learning sessions developed to support academic preparedness and the collabortively co-taught First Year Courses by CPS and UC staff.

Upon successful completion of the four-year pathway, students emerge with either an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science degree, vastly expanding their career opportunities and paving the way for further educational pursuits, including bachelor's degrees and beyond.

An Opportunity for Success

All CPS students are eligible to apply, but must be enrolled and entering 9th grade at Shroder High School. The profile of a CIP@ShroderHS student:

  • Highly Motivated
  • Curiosity towards learning
  • Willing to persist in the face of challenge
  • Able to work well with others
  • Demonstrates positive outlook in and out of the classroom

This CIP@ShroderHS is completely free to the student and their support network. There is no cost for tuition, books or materials required to complete coursework. To receive on campus instruction for years 3 and 4, transportation will be provided from Shroder.

Taking the Next Step

Acceptance into the College Innovation Pathway at Shroder High School is contingent on a few key factors. All students and their parent or caregiver are required to sign the State College Credit Plus Letter of Intent and apply to the University of Cincinnati College Credit Plus program.

Students must maintain the CCP academic standards, commit to the program for 4 years, and take a survey to gauge preparedness and identify possible deficient skill sets to give insight to future academic and tutorial support needed.

CPS School Counselors and UC Admissions Representatives will help all interested students through the application process.
