Staff FAQs

Summer Recovery will take place June 3 - 26, 2024. Staff will report to buildings Friday, May 31 through Thursday, June 27, 2024. CPS will close June 19, 2024 in observance of Juneteenth.

In order to ensure Summer Recovery Summer is staffed to best support all students, schools need teachers with experience in:

• Grade 3, Grades 7-12 (Math, ELA, SS and Science)
• World Languages: Spanish I, Spanish II, others as needed
• Fine Arts: Music Appreciation
• Latin
• AP Courses
• Physical Education (also for acceleration)
• Health (also for acceleration)

All teaching positions require certification/license. Paraprofessionals, lunchroom managers, counselors for grades 9-12, social workers, security assistants and nurses are also needed. Ratios are based on student enrollment. 

The district will also staff ESY classrooms and may have additional summer opportunities. 

Staff will be paid a summer rate based on hours worked up to 7 daily hours. Teachers working three or more hours will get 45 minutes of planning time. Teachers may be assigned full-day responsibilities to cover dismissal.

• West - West High (Dater*, Gamble)
• North Central - Aiken (Woodward)
• South Central - Hughes (Shroder, Taft*)
• East - Walnut Hills* (Clark, Withrow)
• Virtual - John J. Gilligan Digital Academy

K-12 school Sites (Grades 3, 9-12 only)

• SCPA (Oyler *, Riverview, Spencer)

* Denotes a school site that provides students Extended School Year (ESY) services. 

Yes. Any currently employed teacher at CPS can apply to work Summer Recovery. If you are selected to work Summer Recovery, you will be placed at a host site. To find out which schools are hosting search for "all" schools in the “Which school will my student attend?” tool on the main Summer Recovery page. Employees can select 3 preferences in the application. Placement is based on district seniority and number of positions needed.

Teachers and support staff will report to the on-site principal. This may be the host-site principal, or the principal of a school at the site.

Interested employees can apply to Summer Recovery by filling out the interest form below. Applications are due no later than Friday, April 26, 2024. Please note, you must be logged into your CPS Google account to access the application.

Assignment information will be released by May 3, 2024. If assigned, you will need to confirm your assignment by May 8, 2024 to secure your position.
