Walnut Hills High School Selects School Exec Connect to Guide Principal Search

CONTACT: Dr. Gabriel Lofton, CPS Assistant Superintendent, (513) 363-0310

Cincinnati’s Walnut Hills High School has selected the Minnesota-based firm School Exec Connect to conduct a nationwide search for its next principal. The school’s current principal, Jeff Brokamp, is set to retire on June 30.

The firm is known for its thorough and inclusive process, which gathers input from community members, parents, students, teachers and staff to determine the qualities they desire most from school leadership. Their three-month long plan includes several stages to best identify candidates from across the country that represent Walnut Hills’ values.

“This school community has very high standards and more than one hundred years of history,” said Principal Search Committee and Local School Decision Making Committee Chair, Mr. Stephen Baker. “It’s important that as many people as possible be included in this process so we can find the type of educational leader best suited to ensure Walnut Hills’ continued success.”

After touring the school and meeting with various groups, Dr. Craig Larson and Dr. Kevin O’Mara from School Exec Connect launched an online survey on March 7 seeking community input about the characteristics they seek in their school’s new principal. The results will be shared with the Walnut Hills Principal Search Committee and used to create a new principal profile.

In April and May, a nationwide search will be conducted to identify school leaders who are best qualified for the position. From those applicants, a pool of six to ten candidates will be selected. Their names and credentials will then be submitted to the Search Committee. The process will next include a series of on-campus personal interviews with students, parent, staff and community groups.

“Walnut Hills enjoys a well-earned national reputation for excellence,” said Dr. O’Mara. “This is a highly desirable position and I’m certain this process will produce many talented candidates.”

The Search Committee will recommend a final candidate in mid-May. The new principal will assume duties on July 1, 2017.
