Students Receive Free Books and Blankets

December 16, 2016

Kindergarten girls holding their books and blanketsCincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center's employees created more than 400 packages for students at South Avondale School and gave them out on December 14, 2016, after the school's winter music program. Each package included three to four books wrapped in a fleece blanket, also known as “Book Nooks.”

Cincinnati Children’s included improving kindergarten readiness and third-grade reading proficiency as part of its strategic plan for 2020 because literacy is so important to a child’s overall health and development. Employees with Information Services and the volunteer Ambassador program cut hundreds of yards of fleece material and collected boxes of books for the children of South Avondale School.
