Joseph-Beth Hosting Book Drive to Support Withrow University High School

November 18, 2020

Joseph-Beth is is hosting a book drive to support Withrow University High School.

Joseph-Beth is partnering with Withrow University High School for the 2020–2021 school year to help give back to the community and encourage reading. As part of that, Withrow has provided the reading lists for their 7th- and 8th-grade students. The book drive will run through Sunday, December 6. Customers at Joseph-Beth in Rookwood can purchase books for Withrow students. Joseph-Beth will then work to deliver the books to Withrow so that the Withrow team can distribute to their students prior to winter break.

"At Joseph-Beth, being part of the community and encouraging literacy and reading is at the heart of everything we do," said Adam Miller, Joseph-Beth President and CEO. "We are so excited to partner with Withrow, to get more books into the hands of students."

Joseph-Beth fundamentally believes that helping someone to read and write can dramatically help both that individual but also society. Specifically, that reading, and literacy helps:

  • Strengthen the brain
  • Increase empathy
  • Builds vocabulary
  • Reduces stress
  • Builds self esteem

"One of the best ways to encourage and get better at reading is access and practice, meaning to get more books into the hands of kids. And we think we can help with that," said Miller.

Located at 2488 Madison Road, just down the street from Joseph-Beth, Withrow University High School is part of the Cincinnati Public Schools district and teaches students from grades 7 through grade 12.

Customers looking to participate are welcome to select books from the reading list or any book in the store that they would like to contribute.

"We are so thankful to be part of the community," said Miller. "Hopefully this provides a great opportunity to share the love of reading in our community."
