Cincinnati Public Schools will open the Gamble Montessori High School at its new site on Werk Road on Tuesday, August 20 — one day later than the district's other schools.
The delay will allow school and district staff one additional day to ensure that our technology assets and classroom procedures are refined prior to welcoming more than 500 students to the building.
Renovations to four of the building's five floors are complete, as well as renovations to the cafeteria and media room. The first floor of the building will remain under light construction through the middle of September. First floor classrooms will be moved to temporary swing space within the building until construction is completed. Gamble staff will finalize classroom preparations over the weekend and on Monday.
The area of the building still under construction has been evaluated for air quality, and district officials have no safety concerns.
CPS invested $16 million in improvements to the 143,000 square foot, 14 acre site of the historic former Mercy High School, making significant updates to the building’s grounds, kitchen, cafeteria, utilities, windows, media room, HVAC, fire alarm systems, ADA accessibility, technology systems, gymnasium and sports facilities, and installing all new furniture. CPS finalized purchase of the building in June 2018.
