CPS to participate in Learning Through Art’s Cincy Reads!™!

September 5, 2017

Cincy Reads!™ Weekend, Sept. 22-24

Mural of people reading booksIt’s the ice bucket challenge, but without the ice and plenty of books. Cincinnati Public Schools will participate in Learning Through Art (LTA), Inc.’s Cincy Reads!™ Weekend Sept. 22-24, which will wrap the region in reading with three days of family-focused interactive events.

“CPS has been a proud partner of the Learning Through Art for 19 years,” said Superintendent Laura Mitchell. “This program has been a tremendous asset to our efforts to ensure that our students not only enhance their reading skills, but also develop a lifelong love of books. That is why we are a Cincy Reads!™ partner and we challenge other districts to join us in this effort.”

The “challenge” is where things will get interesting. CPS and LTA encourage families to video their own read-a-louds and post to social media, tagging friends to challenge them to do the same, therefore spreading the joy of reading together. CPS will be doing the same for other regional school districts.

Cincy Reads!™ weekend activities include:

  • Friday, September 22: Public Read-A-Loud
  • Saturday, September 23: Books Alive! For Kids® Celebration
  • Sunday, September 24: Scavenger Hunt
