Do students interface with teachers at CDA?  

Teachers provide instructional supports and collaborative opportunities via Google Meet and the Edgenuity platform.

What are the current course offerings?

Is there/will there be a guide or resource to help understand how CDA's Edgenuity courses will align with where she is at in her current classes so we can stay aligned for her 8th grade year at Walnut? Will her current teachers be available to help with transitioning over?

CDA has commissioned a work team to plan June Summer Learning for students transitioning back to home school and choosing to stay at CDA. 

Specialized Coursework 

How will Latin and Band work? What options are available there? For Latin, would we need to look into private instruction?  

There are many language courses available at CDA. Those not offered, we can look into a distance option into another school.

How are classes offered that aren't on CDA's course schedule (i.e. AP and specialized courses?)

  • Once enrolled, the counselors work with the district team to find available options via Distance.
  • Students may also choose to do Credit Flex. See information found here.
  • AP courses are scheduled with AP teachers at other schools via distance model.

Would we need to find a replacement class for band or is there a CDA band option?

Because of our growth and desire to improve our programming, we now offer PAM.

Enrollment 

Does CDA have enough teachers to support the growing enrollment?

CDA staffing has been right-sized to support the increased number of students that have enrolled. Staffing is constantly monitored to support the needs of the school. 

When will 7th graders transition for Walnut, but I see the rest of the district is planning on March 1 for 7/8th grade. Assuming Walnut is on the same timing, since this is just a couple of weeks before the end of the quarter, how will grading work if transitioning to CDA for the quarter and then how will grading work for the semester grades?

Students will receive grades for the work they did in the third quarter from CDA and fourth quarter they will receive grades from their original school if that's where they attend and the quarter grades will be averaged at the end to get the semester grade.

With a Walnut A/B rotation, would it be possible for the student to "audit" the remote instruction sessions with their former class/teachers?

An audit is not possible, your child will have a full schedule in CDA.

Is there a full distance model available at Walnut?

At this time, February 5, 2021, there is not an option to remain at Walnut through Distance Learning. CDA is our distance learning option. Students will enroll in CDA and Counselors will work to match comparable coursework. 

How long does it take to transfer a student to CDA? 

The average processing time is 2 to 3 days.

Will my child be able to return to their magnet school in Fall 2021?

Yes, students can return to their magnet school with their schedule.
