Principal April Simmons
Dear South Avondale Staff and Community:
I am extremely excited to join the Cincinnati Public School District family and even more proud to serve as your instructional leader at South Avondale Elementary School for the 2021-2022 school year. Entering my 15th year as an educator, I have been blessed to serve in various roles in the Mt. Healthy and North College Hill School Districts. I began my educational journey as a classroom paraprofessional, moved on to become an Intervention Specialist, and for the past seven years served in administrative roles in leading and developing alternative educational programs for at risk students. In addition, I have enjoyed being visible in the community serving in the capacity as a coach and mentor for our youth in volleyball, basketball and track. Personally, I enjoy spending my time with family and close friends, line dancing, ballroom and Chicago-style stepping, traveling, and officiating at interscholastic/youth basketball events.
As an educational leader, I recognize the elementary years are critical for our students. My vision is to provide an educational environment where teachers feel empowered and our students thrive, flourish, and prosper. The areas of focus will be early literacy, social-emotional learning, data-based decision-making, and building and maintaining strong community partnerships. I am committed to academic excellence and ensuring that our students are prepared for success. The needs of our students and families will be at the forefront of every decision. I strongly believe that by creating a collaborative learning environment with shared leadership, high expectations for all stakeholders, engaging our parents and community, and focusing on the social-emotional growth of our students, South Avondale will be a catalyst for academic success for years to come.
EVERY STUDENT, EVERY DAY!
