Principal Antuan Lewis

Antwan D. Lewis was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. After graduating from John. R. Buchtel High School, he attended Baldwin Wallace College. During his years at Baldwin-Wallace, Mr. Lewis played football, and held several leadership roles while majoring in secondary education with a focus in History.

Mr. Lewis relocated to Cincinnati in 2009 and received a 9th grade Social Studies position at Aiken High School. The following year, Mr. Lewis moved to Hughes STEM High School where he held several leadership positions, including Social Studies Department Chair, 8th Grade Team Leader, and ELL Coordinator.

After receiving his Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Cincinnati, Mr. Lewis served as Assistant Principal at Mt. Airy Elementary for 2 years.  In 2016, Mr. Lewis was named Principal of Hartwell and he would describe it as a match made in heaven.  He has adopted the phrase “All Hands On Deck” in order to embrace the importance of staff, parents, community members and students coming together to move the school forward.

Letter from Principal Lewis
It is with great pride and pleasure that I formally introduce myself as the new principal of Hartwell Elementary School. I am really excited to be a part of a school and community that has such deep tradition. I am committing myself to ensure our school continues to strive for academic excellence.

Hartwell School is committed to preparing students for High School and to becoming College and Career Ready by the end of 12th grade. Our school is committed to delivering strong instruction with an emphasis on rigor, engagement and use of technology. Our students in grades 3-8 will participate in Advisory, allowing them to develop social skills, self-awareness and begin to understand the hallmarks of wise choices. Our primary students in grades K-3 will participate in our District’s Thriving Readers' program which will help transform our students into strong readers.

As we work throughout the year, our motto is “all hands on deck." Hartwell Elementary School considers our parents as partners. I encourage you to get involved through volunteering or by serving on the PTO or LSDMC. We are always looking for classroom helpers, community partners and volunteers. I am looking forward to meeting and working with you throughout the school year.

As always, if you have questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to contact us.
