Forever... Inspired... Together
Mt. Washington School is a neighborhood school offering a dynamic Expeditionary Learning (EL) Education program and Community Learning Center serving grades Preschool–6. We offer a diverse population with approximately 300 students from a wide range of backgrounds.
In addition to the highly competitive core curriculum with a strong, future-focused college prep program we provide, Mt. Washington School provides classes in art, music, physical education, Spanish and gifted services.
We offer band, strings and choir to interested students and after-school programs that offer an extension of the school day where students participate in academic tutoring, STEM, art and health and wellness enrichment activities.

Expeditionary Learning Program
Mt. Washington School’s EL Education program offers students opportunities to master skills and knowledge through a real-world curriculum that focuses on rigorous project-based learning experiences, fieldwork and case studies. The EL Education Classroom Curriculum incorporates centers of discovery, inquiry, critical-thinking and collaboration where students take ownership and responsibility for their learning. Combined with our robust early literacy program and comprehensive math curriculum, this allows students to achieve their full potential.
Mt. Washington School is committed to the holistic development of every child. Our EL Education program further develops our students as future leaders. Through the EL Education habits of learning and our social emotional program, students utilize quality, thoughtfulness, teamwork, responsibility and perseverance to become engaged learners. As students participate in expeditions, they are connecting with their communities through service learning and contributing to an ever-changing world.
Mt. Washington students are not bound to learning academic concepts in the classroom but apply discovery, inquiry, critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration to real world situations. We believe that students learn best by doing, creating, exploring and working together.
EL Education was born through a collaboration of the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Outward Bound USA. This research-based program is guided by the core practices of:
- Curriculum
- Instruction
- Assessment
- Culture and Character
- Leadership

Community Learning Center
For our schools to transform, our communities must be revitalized. For our communities to revitalize, our schools must be transformed. They are dependent on each other and Community Learning Centers are the link.
Schools and the communities they serve are closely linked. Seldom does one succeed without the success of the other. That's why our Community Learning Centers support student achievement, enrich and revitalize communities and maximize the community's return on their financial investment.
Mt. Washington School is very proud to be a Community Learning Center and a neighborhood anchor. We strive to go beyond academics to focus on the whole child by serving as a hub for community services that are available to all students, their families and the entire community. We are able to offer a variety of services thanks to the collaboration and support of our many partners, our Resource Coordinator Ilene Hayes, and the committed community of Mt. Washington.
