Our fine arts team is always busy developing our students' abilities to sing, play, dance, act, draw, sculpt and paint. Our goal is to help each student discover the talents that he or she possesses and to guide him or her in using them productively.
Art teacher Miss Bergsman enjoys working with students in kindergarten through sixth grade and exploring various forms of visual media. Students have the opportunity to submit art to the city wide art show, which displays the winning entries at the downtown branch of the Cincinnati/Hamilton County Public Libraries. In addition, this year they will create combined artwork for the CPS Fine Arts Showcase in May at the University of Cincinnati's DAAP department.
Each year, we offer the students in 4th through 6th grades the chance to audition and perform in a musical theater production. This is possible in part through the generous funding from the Thomas J. Rebold Foundation for Youth Performing Arts.
Our students most recently premiered Disney's The Lion King and look forward to this year's production of Shrek the Musical Jr. In previous years, they have performed various shows, including The Wizard of Oz, Cinderella, High School Musical, Seussical, and Disney's Little Mermaid.
We also welcome Cincinnati's Playhouse in the Park as they team with Midway in a pilot program to develop drama at Midway through heavy involvement with our students during and after school.
The younger students (kindergarten through 3rd grade) perform at our annual holiday spectacular, where they celebrate all of the traditions that occur in December. You never know what you might see in this ever-changing tradition!
Students also have the opportunity to be selected to perform in the annual CPS Fine Arts Showcase "Community Collage" on May 16 with students from other CPS schools. This amazing event is held at the Aronoff Center for the Arts and the concert is free and open to the public.
Through Mr. Jung, the students can learn how to sing and create music. There is also a great opportunity for our students in grades 4, 5, and 6 to be selected for the CPS Honor Choir, which will perform in early May. In previous years, the group performed under the direction of world renowned composer and director Rollo Dillworth. This group has also performed at the World Choir Games at the Aronoff Center for the Arts. What an amazing experience!
