Cell Phones and Other Electronic Devices
Cell phones and other electronic devices are not allowed during school hours (8:00a.m.-3:00 p.m.) at Dater High School. If students are found using devices in class, or if they make a sound during class because it is not turned off, the following steps will be taken.
- First Time: Device is taken from the student and returned to them at the end of the day at the main office.
- Second Time: Device is taken from the student and put in the main office. The student's parent or guardian will then have to come to the main office and retrieve the device.
Note: If a student reacts in a manner outside of the guidelines outlined by the Positive School Culture grid, the student will be subject to additional repercussions.
In order to insure a successful school experience, students must possess the following:
- Combination Master Lock
- Science Lab Goggles
- Backpack/Tote bag to carry supplies, books, and assignments to and from school. These need to be kept in locker during the school day.
- Any and all other supplies designated as required by teachers and other instructional staff
- Students are issued textbooks for most classes. It is the student's responsibility to care for their books and to return them at the end of the school year in the same condition as when issued.
Students will be fined for damaged or lost books.
Student Instructional Fees
Each school year, parents are assessed a fee by the Cincinnati Board of Education to offset the cost of consumable instructional materials and supplies.
- Prompt payment of this fee is appreciated.
- Failure to pay these fees may result in exclusion from extracurricular activities.
- Juniors are not allowed to attend the Junior/Senior Prom if their current year's fees are not paid.
- Seniors are not allowed to attend the Junior/Senior Prom if their total fee balance is not paid.
See Ms. Jordan in the main office before school, at lunch or after school to pay fees.
The school expects student attire and appearance to be suited to an academic setting, which is business-like in nature. Appropriate dress is an important part of success in school. To insure a positive and safe learning environment, students may NOT wear the following to school:
- Muscle shirts/tank tops/halter tops
- Pants or shorts displaying boxer shorts/underwear
- Clothing that is cut or torn excessively
- Miniskirts or short shorts (less than finger-tip length)
- Sheer/see-through clothing
- Headbands/t-shirts that display inappropriate pictures/words that may threaten the safety of others
- Shirts that expose or reveal the midriff or cleavage
- Cloth, hats or accessories that contain depictions that are gang/drug/alcohol/tobacco related, obscene/profane or sexual in nature
- Flip Flops
- Slippers/house shoes
- NOTE: At the discretion of the administration, a student dressed inappropriately for school may be excluded from school or class attendance until proper clothing has been secured.
Students are encouraged to use the restrooms before school (7 - 7:45 a.m.), on their way to or from their lunch period, and at the end of the school day to avoid loss of instructional time. (If a medical problem exists requiring more frequent access to restroom facilities, a physician's statement must be presented.)
- Students are expected to exhibit proper restroom etiquette out of respect to others and school property.
- Students will not be released from class for any reason during the first and last 10 minutes of each bell. Students should plan accordingly.
- Students must carry their Planner/Hall Pass (with signature from teacher) with them at all times that they are out of the classroom.
School personnel are prohibited from dispensing any medication (including aspirin) unless the "Administration of Medication" form is on file in the nurse's office.
Students with prescribed medication or medication authorized by a parent should take it to the nurse for storage and safekeeping. Students may then return at assigned intervals to receive the appropriate dosage. A copy of the Board of Education Policy on dispensing medication is available in the office. Please contact the nurse.
A locker is assigned to each student by his/her homeroom teacher. The locker must be secured with a combination Master lock purchased by the student and the lock's combination must be registered with the teacher. As a security precaution, students should not give their combination to other students, share lockers unless assigned by the teacher or use a locker other than the one assigned.
Lockers are school property. The school has the legal right to search a student's locker. The school is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
The student is responsible for maintaining a neat, clean and orderly locker.
Dater High School students are held to the same standard of behavior while riding the bus to and from school as they are on campus.
Any student misbehavior associated with bus transportation may result in the school administering the appropriate consequences associated with the District Code of Conduct.
Students may lose bus transportation privileges if their behavior is inappropriate.
No student will be permitted Internet access unless the legally binding document titled "Computer/Internet Acceptable Use Form" is signed and returned.
Internet access is available to Gilbert A. Dater High School students for educational purposes. Computers, other technology and the Internet are only for educational use before, during, and after school. Any misuse will result in disciplinary action, including suspension and/or expulsion from school.
Please be advised that, with Internet access, the possibility exists that students may gain access to information that is not educational in nature. While Dater High School and the district have implemented steps to prevent student access to inappropriate information and material, it is impossible to guarantee that individual students — accidentally or intentionally — will not gain access to inappropriate information. Students are expected to exercise prudent judgment when using computers, other technology and the Internet, and to abide by all district, school and classroom policies.
For any student at Dater High School to gain Internet access, this contract must be read and signed by the student and his/her parents/guardian and returned to the student's homeroom (first bell) teacher.
The following are strictly prohibited:
- Displaying, using, sending, printing or saving obscene language and/or commercial, personal or offensive messages or pictures
- Harassing, insulting or attacking others
- Damaging computers, computer systems or computer networks
- Violating copyright laws
- Using passwords of others' folders, work or files
- Intentionally wasting resources, printing personal work or employing the network for commercial purposes.
Any violation of district, school, or classroom policies governing computer, other technology and Internet use will result in student loss of access privileges and in disciplinary action including suspension and/or expulsion from school.
