Ten CPS Seniors Earn Full-Ride Scholarships to UC
Ten Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) students received life-changing news as recipients of the University of Cincinnati’s Marian Spencer Scholarship, which covers full tuition, room and board, books, and even a trip to Tanzania.
The surprise announcement occurred on UC’s "Decision Day," when these students were notified at their schools. After a selection process involving interviews and essays, they learned they had earned the prestigious scholarship.
Founded in 2022 to honor the late Marian Spencer, a civil rights activist, community leader, and UC alumna, the scholarship covers the full cost of attending UC. It is available to CPS seniors in the top 10 percent of their class who demonstrate leadership, service, and academic achievement.
UC Vice Provost for Enrollment Management Jack Miner delivered the exciting news. He was joined by CPS and UC officials, the Bearcat mascot, members of the Bearcat Bands, and the UC dance and cheer teams for some of the celebrations.
“The scholarship is an incredible honor, but what we look beyond is how these students have dedicated themselves to service and leadership,” Miner said. “It’s an opportunity for these students to be role models and inspire others in the district, showing that UC and higher education are attainable for everyone in CPS.”
The event was a memorable celebration, with support from UC, CPS, and the students' families. These students are now set to carry forward Marian Spencer’s legacy of leadership and positive change.
