Taft Elementary Students Cruising into the School Year with New Bikes

Taft Elementary Students Cruising into the School Year with New Bikes

Dozens of William H. Taft Elementary students are starting the school year with brand-new bikes and helmets, thanks to a partnership between the national nonprofit Can’d Aid, Yasso and the Yasso GameOn! Foundation.

As part of Can’d Aid’s Treads + Trails program, which promotes healthy lifestyles for kids and encourages outdoor activity, volunteers gathered at Rhinegeist Brewery to assemble 70 bicycles. The bikes were later delivered to every kindergarten, first and second grade student at Taft Elementary.

The surprise reveal was extra special for the many students who were gifted their very first bike. Principal Dana Jason said the donation was a memorable moment for the school community.

“This was an absolutely incredible day for our students and our entire school community at Taft Elementary,” Jason said. “We are so grateful to all of the volunteers and the team from Can’d Aid for their generosity of time and resources. This donation gives our students a reason to get outside and be active, which is an important step in building lifelong healthy habits.”
