Sunday Scoop - September 2026

Sunday Scoop - September 2026

Hello,

September is a good time to pause and think about what makes a successful school year possible. One of the simplest, and most important, things we can give our children is our presence.

When students are at school, they are not just completing assignments. They are building relationships, discovering what they are good at, developing confidence and taking steps toward the future they imagine for themselves. That is why our message this month is simple: every day matters.

Under Ohio’s attendance requirements, every absence counts toward a student’s attendance record, including excused absences. Schools will also connect with families when attendance becomes a concern. These conversations are an opportunity to understand what a student or family may need and work together on solutions. If getting your child to school regularly has become a challenge, please reach out to your school. We are here to help.

Being Here for Kids also means listening to them and to you. This month, I encourage our families, staff and students to participate in our School Climate Survey and share what your experience is like at CPS. Your feedback helps us understand what is working, where we have opportunities to grow and how we can continue creating schools where every student feels supported, connected and ready to learn.

It is also a great time to explore the CPS School Selection Process and the many school and program opportunities available across our district. We want every student to find the right fit, one that helps them build on their strengths and prepare for life.

Every day matters. Every voice matters. And every student deserves to know that their school community is here for them. Thank you for partnering with us to make that a reality.

Regards,
Shauna Murphy
Superintendent
