Naturalization Ceremony at Woodward Career Technical High School Celebrates New Citizens
Woodward Career Technical High School students were among the first to celebrate 50 new American citizens during a recent Naturalization Ceremony hosted at the school.
Students experienced a civics lesson firsthand, witnessing the presentation about the rights and responsibilities of citizenship, participating in the Pledge of Allegiance and observing the Oath of Allegiance and awarding of Certificates of Naturalization.
“Today is a good day for our students to witness. This shows everyone is included, no matter what country you are from,” Woodward Principal Sam Yates shared.
"The naturalization ceremony is profoundly inspiring, not only for those becoming new citizens, but for our Woodward Career Technical High School students who were able to witness and participate in the ceremony," CPS Interim Superintendent Shauna Murphy said. "Learning about this process in their classroom is one thing, but experiencing it firsthand offers our students a unique and powerful perspective on the responsibilities and privileges of citizenship."
Bulldog pride was on display for the new citizens as Woodward’s marching band performed, students shared readings and witnessed the ceremony.
“It’s very amazing to see somebody who has taken years out of their time to try to be a citizen to finally be accepted,” Amya Hudson, a Woodward junior said.
