District Performance, Redesign, Sustainability and Growth 2024-25 Plans
As Cincinnati Public Schools reimagines a future focused on enhancing educational opportunities and maintaining operational efficiency, the District Performance, Redesign, Sustainability and Growth plans will affect four school communities for the 2024-25 school year, with additional planning for upcoming school years.
Riverview East Academy

Kindergarten through grade 8 students will attend Mt. Washington School (1730 Mears Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45230) beginning the first day of school, Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024. Students will automatically be enrolled at Mt. Washington School. If families prefer to attend their neighborhood school, please contact CPS’ Customer Care Center at 513-363-0123 for enrollment assistance.

Ninth through 12th grade students will attend Riverview East Academy beginning the first day of school, Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024. Students’ classes will be held on the second floor of Riverview, while Spencer Center students’ classes will be held on the first floor. For the 2025-26 school year, students will select their neighborhood school or a school of choice. If families prefer to select a different school for the 2024-25 school year, please contact CPS’ Customer Care Center at 513-363-0123.

Each Autism Unit and Strides Unit will relocate to different schools for the 2024-25 school year. CPS’ Department of Student Services will share additional information with affected families and staff.
Spencer Center for Gifted and Exceptional Students
- All Spencer Center students will report to the Riverview East Academy building (3555 Kellogg Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45226) beginning the first day of school, Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024. Spencer Center classes will be held on the first floor of Riverview East Academy for the 2024-25 school year, and will occupy the entire building beginning in the 2025-26 school year.
Dr. O’dell Owens Center for Learning
- All Dr. O’dell Owens Center for Learning students will report to the school’s new location in the former Spencer Center building (2825 Alms Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45206) beginning the first day of school, Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024.
Shroder High School
- Shroder 7th and 8th students will report to the school’s new location in the former Dr. O’dell Owens Center for Learning building (6100 Desmond Street, Cincinnati, OH 45227) beginning the first day of school, Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How will staff be affected by this change? How will they transition?
Staff members will transition with their respective grade for their school community. For example, a first grade teacher at Riverview East Academy will transition to teach first grade at Mt. Washington School. Staff members will receive information regarding designated opportunities to access classrooms to pack their belongings. CPS Facilities will move supplies to staff member’s new school building.
How will Riverview East Academy and Spencer Center students share common spaces?
District and school leaders are working together to create a schedule which allows both school communities access to common areas during designated periods.
How will Autism and Strides units be affected by the transition?
Riverview East Academy’s pre-K disability and pre-K co-teach classroom will relocate to the former Bramble Elementary School. Each of Riverview’s Autism Units and the Strides Unit will relocate, both students and their teachers, for the 2024-25 school year. All Shroder grade 7 and 8 students and staff will relocate to the former Dr. O’dell Owens Center for Learning building for the 2024-25 school year. Families and staff will receive communications from the Department of Student Services with additional details.
Can my student attend a different school for the 2024-25 school year?
CPS is ready to assist families interested in choosing another school for the 2024-25 school year if the school has space available and the student meets eligibility requirements. Call 513-363-0123 for enrollment assistance.
Will Mt. Washington School accept all K-6 Riverview East Academy students, and what options are available if I prefer my student attend another school?
Yes. Mt. Washington School is prepared to accept every K-6 Riverview East Academy student and staff member. CPS is available to assist families interested in enrolling in their neighborhood school if they choose not to attend Mt. Washington School.
Will my student’s school start time change?
All student’s will remain on the same start time, except for elementary Riverview East Academy students who are now attending Mt. Washington School. Mt. Washington School’s schedule is 7:40 a.m.- 2:10 p.m.
How will this change affect my student’s transportation?
Students eligible for transportation will be automatically routed to their school’s new building on Yellow Bus or Metro, based on their grade level. What support is available to my student to help with this transition?
Each school’s mental health partner, school social worker and counselor will be available to offer support and guidance to support students who may need it.
