CPS Superintendent, Principals, Students Honored at GRAD Cincinnati Scholarship Breakfast
Cincinnati Public Schools shined at the GRAD Cincinnati Scholarship Breakfast where Superintendent Shauna Murphy, inspiring principals and outstanding students were honored for their dedication to education and student success.
The "Climbing the Ladder to a Brighter Future" breakfast, hosted by GRAD Cincinnati, brought together local leaders, philanthropists and community members to raise more than $25,000 for scholarships and college tours for local students. The event also highlighted individuals for their support and dedication to the nonprofit. CPS honorees include:
- CPS Superintendent Shauna Murphy received the Founders Award for her exceptional role in strengthening the partnership between CPS and GRAD, as well as her work in improving career pathways and graduation rates for CPS students.
- Dr. Carlos Blair, principal of Western Hills University High School, the first GRAD high school, was awarded the Founders Award for his tireless efforts during his 24 year career to elevate academic performance and graduation rates, particularly for English Language Learners.
- Hays Porter School Principal Nedria West was awarded the School Momentum Award for achieving a four-star rating on the Ohio Department of Education's 2024 State Report Card, showing the school's continuous improvement and dedication to student success.
Superintendent Murphy was applauded for her leadership and her pivotal role in driving Cincinnati Public Schools' relationship with community partners. Under her guidance, CPS successfully implemented industry-recognized credentials and certifications to increase high school graduation rates and expand career and technical education (CTE) pathways, ultimately preparing students for post-secondary success.
More than 30 scholarships were awarded to GRAD Scholars, empowering them to pursue their college dreams.
“This support means everything to me and my family. Knowing that so many people care gives us hope and strength to continue pursuing our goals,” Western Hills senior and GRAD scholar Kelvin Cruz-Anton said.
The funds raised at the event will be used to provide scholarships and fund college tours for students, ensuring that they have the resources to succeed in their educational journeys. The success of the breakfast not only provides immediate financial support but also lays the groundwork for future efforts to continue empowering students and strengthening the community.
