CPS Student-Athletes Celebrated at Baseball and Softball All-Star Showcase

CPS Student-Athletes Celebrated at Baseball and Softball All-Star Showcase

The seventh annual CPS Baseball and Softball All-Star Showcase, presented by the Reds Community Fund, was a homerun, honoring 75 outstanding baseball and softball student-athletes and their coaches.

The event took place at the P&G MLB Cincinnati Reds Youth Academy at Roselawn Park on a beautiful day, marking the end of the school year for the CPS community.

Community members attended to support the student-athletes and to celebrate the winners of the Chris Nelms Scholarship, including Rhonda Borden from Clark Montessori High School and Omarion Beckley from Gilbert A. Dater High School. The scholarship provides $2,000 to one male and one female scholar-athlete competing in baseball or softball and attending an institute of higher education.

This year’s event also included a tribute to late CPS Athletics Director Dave Dierker. The Reds Community Fund created a memorial plaque for placement at the Reds Youth Academy and presented a commemorative plaque to the Dierker family.

“CPS is grateful for the collaborative and supportive partnership with the Cincinnati Reds and their Community Fund staff that continue to make the students of CPS a priority,” Josh Hardin, CPS Athletics Manager said.

CPS coaches were recognized for their commitment and dedication to their students.

“Our coaches are our life line and true mentors that impact the lives of our student-athletes,” Hardin said. “It was great to see them engaging with all of our student-athletes throughout the District and ending their seasons with such an amazing event.”

CPS student-athletes participated in various contests and showcase games. Withrow University High School’s Glen Gilliam won the Baseball Home Run Derby and Walnut Hills High School’s Chloe Dollar claimed the Softball Home Run Derby title. Dater High School’s Omarion Beckley, competing for Western Hills University High School, won baseball's fastest around the bases competition, and Loriniya Davis from Oyler School won the title for softball. Aidan Peters from Gamble Montessori High School was named Baseball MVP, while Taylor Birl from Walnut Hills High School earned the Softball MVP award.

“Thank you to the event's supporters, including Activities Beyond the Classroom, BSN, Game One, Gatorade and Ron D’s BBQ, who provided meals, customized hats, uniforms and equipment,” Mark Hermann, CPS Assistant Athletics Manager said.

This showcase celebrated the achievements of student-athletes and fostered community spirit, making it a memorable event for all involved.
