CPS Educators and Volunteers Honored at Regional Excellence in Education Awards

CPS Educators and Volunteers Honored at Regional Excellence in Education Awards

Three members of the Cincinnati Public Schools community were recognized for their dedication to students during the 2026 Excellence in Education Awards, an annual celebration honoring outstanding educators and volunteers from across Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

The awards program, presented by the Cincinnatus Association with several regional university partners, celebrates individuals whose work is making a lasting difference for students and schools throughout the region. This year’s event took place Feb. 19 at Mount St. Joseph University.

Among those recognized were three individuals connected to Cincinnati Public Schools.

Kevin Williams, principal of Silverton Elementary School, received the James N. Jacobs Award for Outstanding Administrator in Cincinnati Public Schools. The honor recognizes school leaders who demonstrate exceptional leadership and commitment to their students, staff and school communities.

Berayah Johnson, a teacher at Woodward Career Technical High School, earned the Woodward Trust Distinguished Teacher Award in Cincinnati Public Schools, which recognizes classroom excellence and a deep commitment to helping students succeed.

Mark Hogan, a volunteer at Kilgour Elementary School, received the John E. Pepper Award for Outstanding Volunteer in Public Education in Cincinnati Public Schools. The award recognizes individuals who generously give their time and energy to support students and strengthen school communities.

Superintendent Shauna Murphy said the recognition highlights the dedication of educators and community members who support Cincinnati Public Schools students every day.

“These honorees represent the passion and commitment that define Cincinnati Public Schools,” Murphy said. “Their work helps ensure our students have the support and opportunities they need to succeed, and it reflects what it truly means to be Here for Kids.”

Their recognition reflects the many ways Cincinnati Public Schools educators and community partners work together to support students both inside and outside the classroom. The awards highlight leadership in school administration, excellence in teaching and the vital role volunteers play in strengthening school communities.

“Whether they work for a public or private school, in Northern Kentucky or Southwest Ohio, the winners of these awards have one thing in common: they’re dedicated to making sure students get the best possible education,” said Elliot Grossman, chair of the Education Awards for the Cincinnatus Association. “We’re proud to continue this long-time program so outstanding educators get the recognition they deserve.”

The Excellence in Education Awards bring together educators, volunteers and community leaders each year to celebrate those making a meaningful impact on students across the region. For more information, please visit their website: https://greatercincyed.org/
