CPS Announces Treasurer Retirement, Board Search Process for New Treasurer
Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) announces the upcoming retirement of Treasurer Jennifer Wagner, who has served the District for more than 30 years, and nearly 10 years as Chief Financial Officer. The Board will begin a thorough and transparent process to find a successor to continue the District’s tradition of strong financial stewardship.
“Under Treasurer Wagner’s leadership, Cincinnati Public Schools has maintained a strong financial position,” CPS Interim Superintendent Shauna Murphy said. “We wish Treasurer Wagner the best in her retirement, and appreciate her long standing legacy of responsible and effective fiscal management.”
The Board will issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) to seek a search firm to identify qualified candidates to interview for the position of Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer. Candidates must meet state licensure requirements by holding a valid Ohio Treasurer license. Treasurer Wagner will support the incoming Treasurer to ensure a smooth transition in leadership.
“It is our top priority to find the right candidate to fill this critical role to continue the District’s good financial stewardship,” CPS Board President Eve Bolton said. “We are committed to ensuring that the next Treasurer is someone who will build on Treasurer Wagner’s legacy and support our District’s mission to provide high-quality learning and equitable opportunities.”
Under Wagner’s leadership, the District consistently outperformed budgeted expectations and continued to maintain its bond credit rating issued by Moody’s Investor Service. Treasurer Wagner also launched “Just Ask Jen,” a community financial town hall series in partnership with the Board’s Finance Committee.
Wagner’s retirement will be effective Monday, Sept. 1, 2025, marking the conclusion of a distinguished career.
