Cincinnati Public Schools Launches Growth Plan to Lead Education into a New Era

Cincinnati Public Schools Launches Growth Plan to Lead Education into a New Era

Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) is charting a bold course into the future of education with the rollout of its comprehensive Growth Plan, which Superintendent Shauna Murphy describes as “a new era for Cincinnati Public Schools.”

The plan focuses on three key priorities: operational efficiencies, improving student outcomes and expanding opportunities through signature programming like Beyond the Tassel. According to Superintendent Murphy, the initiative is designed to help students and their families achieve success through intentional strategies that address their academic and personal needs.

“This is about preparing our kids for what comes next,” Murphy said. “We’re emphasizing operational efficiencies, a whole-child approach and creating programs that go beyond the tassel to set students up for success in college, career or service.”

Operational Efficiencies: School Selection in Focus

One of the plan’s immediate priorities is guiding families through the school selection process. Murphy stressed the importance of acting now for families with 8th-grade students selecting high schools and 5th and 6th graders selecting middle or junior high schools for next year.

“This is the time of year when we’re asking students and families to select the schools that best meet their needs,” Murphy said. “We have resources available to make this process easy, whether it’s our dedicated website or assistance from staff who can help families navigate their options.”

CPS encourages families to explore their options and get their students registered for the upcoming school year. Murphy emphasized that making the right choice now can help students find a school that aligns with their unique goals and interests.

Supporting Student Outcomes

Improving student outcomes is another pillar of the Growth Plan. Murphy highlighted the importance of addressing the barriers that some students face, particularly those experiencing homelessness.

“We’ve created something we call ‘The WRAP,’ which provides wraparound services like clothing, school supplies and other essential needs,” Murphy explained. “This ensures that every student has the foundation they need to succeed in the classroom.”

By focusing on the whole child, CPS aims to ensure that all students have access to the resources and support they need to thrive academically and personally.

Signature Programming: Beyond the Tassel

The Growth Plan’s signature programming, Beyond the Tassel, focuses on preparing students for life after graduation. The initiative includes expanding Junior ROTC programs, deepening college partnerships, and providing hands-on career and technical education opportunities.

“This is about creating pathways for our students,” Murphy said. “Whether it’s college, the military or a career, we’re helping them prepare for whatever future they choose.”

Building a New Era of Education

With over 35,000 students to serve, Murphy recognizes the scope of the district’s mission but remains optimistic about the path forward.

“There’s so much to look forward to for our kids, our families, and our community as a whole,” she said. “This Growth Plan is how we’ll ensure CPS continues to rise to the challenges of a new era of education.”

Families interested in learning more about the Growth Plan or enrolling for the upcoming school year are encouraged to visit the CPS website or contact Customer Care at (513) 363-0123.
