Cincinnati Public Schools Announces Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2024
Fourteen outstanding Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) alumni and coaches will be inducted into the CPS Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2024. Their accomplishments span a variety of sports including cross country, football, basketball, baseball, tennis, track, volleyball, gymnastics and swimming. This year’s Hall of Fame Class includes honorees from 1938 to 2011. Inductees to the Hall of Fame Class of 2024 include:
The Class of 2024 Living Athletes are Tyrone Brown (Withrow 1991), Jennifer Hogan (Western Hills 1996), Shana Darden (Taft 2005), Danny Horace (Western Hills 2001), Ashley Liverpool (Walnut Hills 2010), Phillip Ritchie (Withrow 1961), Andrea Smythe (CAPE 1989) and Skyler Willis-Walton (Withrow 2011).
The Class of 2024 Coaches are E.A. Poos (Hughes, Woodward: football, basketball, baseball, cross country, gymnastics, track) and Larry Wetenkamp (Taft, Hughes, Western Hills: gymnastics, volleyball, track, baseball, cross country, football, golf).
The Class of 2024 Posthumous Athletes are Gary Cobb (Withrow 1956), Walt Maerki (Withrow 1938), Jule Rosenthal (Hughes 1938) and Frank Shands (Hartwell HS 1940).
“These athletes and coaches have distinguished themselves both on and off the field of play,” Josh Hardin, CPS Athletics Manager, said. “Cincinnati Public Schools has an incredibly rich and historic pedigree with athletics. We are privileged to have an opportunity to invite these model athletes and coaches back to our district and community to recognize their accomplishments.”
CPS will recognize the honorees during an induction ceremony Thursday, October 10, 2024 at TQL Stadium. Local sports broadcasters John Popovich and Lincoln Ware will emcee the dinner and ceremony, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
“Extracurricular activities such as athletics are essential to provide our students opportunities to build leadership, teamwork and responsibility," CPS Interim Superintendent Shauna Murphy said. "We are proud to recognize this year's class of outstanding inductees, and their accomplishments as a CPS student-athlete or coach."
