Celebrating Women's History Month: Principal Kaitlin Dauner’s Impact in Education
As part of Women’s History Month, we spotlight Kaitlin Dauner, the principal of Woodford Academy, whose leadership in Cincinnati Public Schools continues to inspire students and educators alike. With nearly 10 years in education, Dauner has dedicated her career to fostering student growth and empowering the next generation of leaders.
Dauner began her career in St. Louis Public Schools but soon returned to Cincinnati, her hometown, to continue her work in education. She taught at Taft Elementary and Rothenberg Preparatory Academy, and served as assistant principal at Carson School before becoming principal at Woodford Academy.
“I came back to Cincinnati because it’s home to me, and it’s where I wanted to make an impact,” Dauner said. “It’s been a rewarding journey, and each step has helped me grow as an educator.”
At Woodford Academy, Dauner leads with a focus on arts and culture, encouraging students to tap into their creativity. As an arts-focused school, Woodford provides students with opportunities to explore their passions in music, visual arts and beyond. For Dauner, it’s important that students understand the limitless possibilities for their futures.
“I want students to know that creativity isn’t just limited to the arts. It’s about exploring all the ways you can use your creativity, whether it’s in science, business or other fields,” Dauner explained. “There’s a place for everyone to thrive, no matter their passion.”
Dauner’s leadership goes beyond her role as principal. She’s committed to building a supportive environment for both students and staff. “It’s about lifting everyone up,” Dauner said. “We have incredible teachers and staff at Woodford, and I want to make sure they are recognized for all the hard work they do every day.”
For women aspiring to become principals, Dauner offers this advice “Know your why. If you understand your purpose, you can overcome any obstacle. It’s not a sprint, it's a marathon. Stay focused on why you’re doing this work, and that will help you through the tough times.”
