CPS and Taiwanese Students Build Bridges
An exciting relationship exists between Cincinnati Public Schools and New Taipei City, Taiwan, as part of Cincinnati’s Sister City Project.
New Taipei City became Cincinnati's Sister City in 1994, one of eight Sister Cities with Cincinnati. Former Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory visited New Taipei City while mayor and agreed to a student-exchange program between the two cities.
Due to COVID-19, the Spring 2020 trip to New Taipai City was canceled, and the program temporarily is on hold.
The student-exchange program was highlighted in a recent article in Sister Cities International, which also noted a large donation of personal protective equipment from New Taipei City to Cincinnati hospitals during the pandemic.
New Taipai City students — including some who participated in the trips to Cincinnati — produced a video thanking health-care professionals worldwide for their service during COVID-19.
Student Exchange Program Going Strong
It all started in April 2013, when 30 high school students from New Taipai City spent a month visiting Cincinnati and surrounding school districts, staying in homes of host families. Since then, numerous inbound and outbound trips have been conducted, with more than 250 students, chaperones and host families participating.
The visits are designed to promote educational and cultural exchanges between Cincinnati and New Taipei City, and to broaden Cincinnati-area students' international reach and world views.

You Can Help
You can help Cincinnati Public Schools’ students experience an amazing trip across the globe. Our Taiwanese hosts graciously cover most of the expenses for students — lodging with host families, meals, transportation, weekend activities, plus group discounts on airfare.
But the cost still is out of reach for many CPS students.
