Building Bridges: The Power of Being Present with Superintendent Wright and Rabbi Abie Ingber
Superintendent Wright sat down with Rabbi Abie Ingber, a pioneering advocate of immigrant and refugee rights, social justice and interfaith collaboration, to discuss how educators and community leaders can create an environment where all students feel heard and included when polarizing current events are at the forefront of students’ and our community’s minds.
For over 30 years, Rabbi Ingber served as the executive director of the Hillel Jewish Student Center at the University of Cincinnati. In 2008, he founded the Center for Interfaith Community Engagement at Xavier University and served as its executive director until his retirement in 2018. He was also a senior visiting professor in the University’s Department of Theology, and Special Assistant to Fr. Michael Graham, S.J., President of Xavier. Rabbi Ingber works with people of all faiths and ages toward the goals of mutual understanding and social justice. He celebrates life's differences and teaches that joy is present in all religions and cultures.
During the conversation, Superintendent Wright and Rabbi Ingber discussed ensuring students and staff are culturally competent, how to be prudent digital citizens, what it means to listen to understand, rather than listen to respond and how to reach common goals while recognizing differences of opinion.
