For Middle School Students at Roberts Academy

Roberts Academy is a Candidate School* for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Roberts Academy believes is important for our students.

International Baccalaureate is an internationally recognized educational program with a rigorous curriculum that emphasizes creative problem solving, hands-on projects, inquiry-based learning, global focus, and community service.

International Baccalaureate programming does not replace the current curriculum, but rather enhances it. Students will continue to learn traditional subjects, meeting all state academic content standards. The International Baccalaureate framework allows students to see connections between the subjects they study and to apply them to real life, encourages global thinking, and supports the development of effective communication.

    What is IB?

IB stands for International Baccalaureate. The International Baccalaureate is an international organization that provides a framework for quality instruction that sets students up for success in school, college, work, and beyond. Students graduating from IB programmes develop skills that enable them to succeed in their paths while building intercultural mindedness and respect.

The IB has four distinct programmes, ranging from pre-k to 12th grade. The PYP, or Primary Years Programme, is for students in pre-K through 5th grades. Grades 6 through 10 use the MYP, or Middle Years Programme, while grades 11 and 12 have access to the Diploma Programmes (DP) and Career-related Programmes(CP).  Roberts Academy is in the last phase of accreditation for the MYP, with plans to add the PYP. Our partner school, Gilbert A Dater High School, is also in the last phase of accreditation for the MYP and has plans to add the DP and CP programmes to offer CPS families the full IB continuum.

    Mission Statement

Roberts Academy aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and compassionate critical thinkers who help create a better, more peaceful world through international-mindedness. Our schools encourage students to become active and lifelong learners equipped to solve problems in a global community.

  • Why is IB unique?

The IB continuum of programmes helps our schools:

    • Build a caring school culture with increased attention to social and emotional learning
    • Connect learning across subject areas
    • Adapt to the context of our community
    • Increase students’ abilities to think critically
    • Prepare students for life beyond our walls
    • Students participating in the IB are accepted into college at a higher rate than in other programs, and once in college, they have higher retention rates.

Developing our students and our school culture

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) learner profile describes a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond academic success. They imply a commitment to help all members of the school community learn to respect themselves, others, and the world around them.

At Roberts Academy, we strive to develop students who exhibit these qualities in the classroom. Each month, we focus on one Learner Profile Attribute.
