At Cincinnati Public Schools, we strive to provide our students with ample opportunities to excel in preschool through 12th grade, to graduate and to confidently move into adulthood. We want our students to become contributing members of the work force, with opportunities to enter higher education and to launch successful careers.
An important key to this success is for students to maintain a good attendance record. Coming to class every school day, only missing school if truly necessary, will help assure that a student keeps up with class work and has the opportunity to interact with teachers. A student who faithfully attends class is able to ask questions and gain insight before falling behind. The district's ongoing "Count Me In" campaign is designed to deliver this message to students.
Academic partners often provide that little extra help that a student might need to succeed in school. For example, through the Student Enterprise Program (StEP) elementary students form classroom businesses; hold jobs; and earn, spend and save school currency. Through this program, economics and personal finance education come alive as students are engaged in schoolwork and learn practical skills. The Cincinnati Youth Collaborative's mentoring program matches students with caring adults to improve their chances of graduating high school and progressing on to higher education.
We want every Cincinnati Public Schools' student to understand early that attending college is important and that it is possible for them. Through programs such as Project GRAD and GEAR UP, our students are guided toward the goal of obtaining higher education.
Getting into college and then paying for it can be challenging for students and their parents. Organizations such as the CYC (Cincinnati Youth Collaborative) and the CPS College Planning and Resource Center can provide information and tips for making college a reality.
