Rockdale School
Follow the progress as a new home for Rockdale Academy is constructed on land adjacent to the current school on Rockdale Avenue, Avondale. New photos will be added regularly.

September 2004 The left photo show the classroom layout with the cabinetry and bookshelves. On the right is storage space for use by kindergarten students.
August 2004 The left photo shows the brick finish on the outside of  the east side of the classroom wing just north of the mechanical yard. In the photo on the right, carpenters are installing the cabinetry in a classroom where students will put their backpacks, lunch boxes and extra items during the day.
June 2004 The photo on the left shows the outer walls of the Clinic on the north side of the building. The photo on the right is a first-floor classroom that has been drywalled.
May 2004 – On the left is an interior view of the computer room as the walls go up. On the right is a western view of the main entrance on the north side of the building.

February 2004 Work is beginning on the interior of the dining area looking east towards the kitchen and the west elevation of the third-floor classroom area.
January 2004 The steel structure is being built for the third-floor classroom wing. The first-floor corridor south of the dining area is taking shape.
December 2003 – In the clinic area more work is being done on the foundation while masonry work continues on the second-floor classroom wing.
November 2003 – Work is beginning on the first- floor mechanical room and its major equipment (left), as well as the first-floor restroom group piping (right), prior to the masonry walls being installed.
Late October 2003 – Steel framing is being erected above the kitchen/dining area. Construction is beginning on the second-floor level of a classroom area.
Mid-October 2003 – Walls forming the corridor leading to a classroom area are erected and earthwork is being done under where the clinic will be housed.
Early October 2003 – Progress continues on the masonry walls in the classroom wing while steel beams are erected in the kitchen area of the new school site.
September 2003 – Masonry walls go up in the south classroom area of the new Rockdale Academy.
August 2003 – Installation of the underground plumbing and concrete foundations for the south classroom section of Rockdale Academy continues while the outline of the new school's classroom wing takes shape. The current Rockdale Academy can be seen in the background in the photo on the right.
July 2003 – Workers prepare the east side of the site for completion of concrete retaining walls and build temporary roads to allow construction equipment to move around the site.
Late June 2003 – Earthwork continues on the eastern side of the site as the building's shape, or footprint, is laid out and covered with gravel.
June 2003 – The storm-water retention tank nears completion, as site work continues at the new Rockdale Academy site.
Late May 2003 – Excavation for the new storm-water retention tank is complete. Crews recently poured the tank's concrete bottom. The tank is located under what will be the school's new entrance driveway off Northern Avenue.
Early May 2003 – Work progresses along the new concrete retaining walls on the site's east and south property lines.
April 2003 – Shovels dig a large hole to make room for new storm-water pipes, and concrete foundations are put into place for several retaining walls along the sides of the property.
March 2003 Work crews grade, level and prepare the former Condon School site before construction begins on the new Rockdale school.
January 2003 A cleared, level site awaits construction to begin on the new 84,000-square-foot school, which will hold 650 students in kindergarten through eighth grade. 
December 2002 Work continues at the site to remove debris and level the area.
November 2002 Work crews clear debris from the former Condon School site.
October 2002 Heavy equipment levels the former Randall J. Condon School on Rockdale Avenue in Avondale, to make space for a new home for adjacent Rockdale Academy. Condon School, built in 1928 and used as a school until 1982, was cleared of architectural features before demolition. Some of the architectural items will be incorporated into new Cincinnati Public Schools.
