Student Attendance

The district's ongoing campaign to raise student attendance is working, with more students consistently showing up for school.

The Count Me In campaign, launched in the 2003-04 school year, focuses on making students more aware of the importance of attending classes every school day. It's a simple concept — students who attend class every school day reap educational benefits.

The school district, too, benefits when students consistently attend class — especially during the first full weeks of October and February. Those are the weeks of the official count, an analysis of student attendance that serves as the base for determining the district's official enrollment. The enrollment is used to determine how much money the district receives from the state.

Attendance also is a performance measure on the Ohio School Report Card, an annual look at how a district and its schools have performed.

The campaign — which teams teachers, social workers, parents, and community and business partners to encourage students to come to class — features colorful stickers and posters for students and letters and fliers sent to parents, along with a student and parent pledge, and Weekly Attendance Award certificates.

Improving student attendance will continue as a district priority.
