Cincinnati Public Schools is making strong academic strides, but your help is needed to continue our academic progress.
By becoming a tutor and spending a small amount of time at a school each week, you can provide individual help to a student outside the traditional classroom setting, reinforcing basic concepts and taking the time to explain complex systems.
The benefits of tutoring are numerous:
Training is a critical and necessary component of any program's success. Cincinnati Public Schools provides volunteer tutors with training on the basics of how children learn, ways to help a child develop good reading and math skills, and suggested activities that can be shared with students.
The training not only helps volunteers to become stronger and more effective tutors, but assists them in communicating more effectively with school staff.
CPS' academic advancements come with higher expectations for students. With higher academic content standards and corresponding assessments, there have been many rigorous demands placed on children. These challenges are putting some of our students at risk of failure and dropping out of school.
By volunteering to become a tutor, you demonstrate that you care about a student by modeling commitment, self discipline, and enthusiasm. You are making a difference that will last a lifetime for Cincinnati Public Schools' students.
