School-Year Calendar

Cincinnati Public Schools sets its school-year calendar based on state law and input from parents and the district's administration. The calendar determines when schools will be in session or closed for breaks and holidays. For parents' convenience, the district aims to set calendars several years in advance.

CPS' school-year calendar sets 178 instructional days for students (or 202 instructional days if summer school is counted). Teacher work days are set at 183 plus holidays.

Extending the School Year If Necessary

CPS may have to change the school-year calendar if schools are closed for longer than the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) allows because of severe weather or other emergencies. The ODE usually allows districts to close for five days per school year without the need to make up those days.

If make-up days are called for, this is the procedure CPS will follow (to comply with state law Sections 3313.48 and 3317.01):

1. The days during Spring Recess may be designated school days as needed.
2. Mondays through Fridays in June immediately following the end of the school year may be designated school days as needed.
3. Saturday and/or Sunday sessions may be scheduled if other calendar adjustments provide inadequate instructional time.

Web-Based Calendar

The greatest advantage of the Web-based calendar is that dates are constantly being added and updated to give you the most accurate information possible. It's flexible and can be adjusted to view dates to meet your preferences. More detailed information, such as the location and meeting agenda, also are available.

Features

• Change what you see on the calendar page. Click on the little arrow next to "Current View" and pick from among three categories – All, Staff or Public – depending on how detailed you want the information.
• Maneuver through the months by clicking on the calendar icons with arrows on them. The left arrow takes you back, the right arrow takes you forward.
• Click on the second icon (a magnifying glass) to search for a specific event, such as Test Dates or Board of Education meetings.
• Go directly to the month and year you want by choosing them from the drop-down box at the top right of the screen.
• Click on the date (the number in the calendar box) and see all the information for events that day.
• Click on the event to see the details, such as the location and the event's agenda if available.
• Click on the "Week" tab on the right side to see a week of events, instead of an entire month.
• The key for the color coding is located at the bottom of the page.

Printing

To print the Web calendar page, it must be changed to a printable version. To do that, click on the little printer icon (the last of five icons lined up on the calendar toolbar directly above calendar dates). You'll notice that the lines become darker. Then, print as you normally would from the Web.
