

A brief look at the Cincinnati Public Schools' Board of Education's meetings, compiled by the Public Affairs Department.
Board members present: President Eileen Reed, Vice President Melanie Bates, Susan Cranley, John Gilligan, Catherine Ingram, Florence Newell and Rick Williams.
Superintendent Rosa Blackwell and Treasurer Jonathan Boyd attended.
The Board's meeting began at 7:10 p.m. in the Education Center, the district's headquarters in Corryville.
Students from College Hill Fundamental Academy led the Board in the Pledge of Allegiance, then performed the pledge as a rap.
APPROVED a resolution authorizing the start of bidding for the demolition of the former Washington Park School at W. 14th and Elm streets in Over-the-Rhine. The district plans to have the site cleared by late November.
APPROVED a resolution authorizing the start of an Adult High School Continuation Program, offering courses needed for a high school diploma at Oyler School and other district sites.
APPROVED a resolution requesting the group called Cincinnatians Active to Support Education (CASE) to lead the district's levy campaign for the November 2007 election.
APPROVED a resolution adopting guidelines for sustainable designs for "green," or environmentally friendly, buildings, to be used on all remaining projects within the Facilities Master Plan. The guidelines focus on bringing all new construction as close as possible to the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver level of compliance. All rehabilitated buildings also will strive for a minimum LEED certification. The guidelines also state that at least one new building will be built to LEED Gold or Platinum certifications.
APPROVED the superintendent's recommendations.
ACCEPTED the report of the Board's Committee of the Whole meeting on Wednesday, September 5, 2007, which included a presentation on CPS' Central Office by McKinsey & Co.
ACCEPTED the revised report of the Board's Policy Committee meeting on Wednesday, September 5, 2007.
APPROVED the treasurer's report.

The Board's next regular meeting will be 7 p.m. Monday, September 24, 2007, at district headquarters, 2651 Burnet Avenue, in Corryville.
